Frequently Asked Questions
Back to Grand Cayman Activity Page- Q: Where are you located?
- A: Atlantis Submarines is located in the heart of George Town on the Water front opposite the Hard Rock Cafe.
- Q: Where on Grand Cayman can I find the Atlantis Submarine tour?
- A: Please see the map below.
- Q: I am claustrophobic; can I go on the submarine tour?
- A: Yes, and it may help you with this problem. Persons with claustrophobia, who have gone on the submarine, report being surprised that you tend to focus out through the viewport into the wide open ocean space rather than inside the submarine of itself. Guests aboard Atlantis are seated on molded seats in two rows down the center of the passenger cabin .The pilot is located at the bow and co-pilot at the stern of the cabin. There is more than six feet of headroom.
- Q: Is it safe?
- A: Atlantis Cayman was established in 1985 and has had no major incidents. We are certified by American Bureau of Shipping standards annually. All systems on the submarine are duplicated and the vessel floats to the surface when it is not powered. There is a surface control vessel that stays with the submarine throughout the tour and is in constant communication. We are proud of our highly professional staff, who are drug and alcohol free based on our random drug testing program.
- Q: Is there an age restriction?
- A: No, but there is a height restriction as children should be at least three feet in height, since the safety equipment on board is not recommended for children under that height. All children meeting the height requirement (and up to 12 years old) should be paid for irrespective of age.
- Q: Do you provide a shuttle service?
- A: No, we do not provide a shuttle service however we are located right in the heart of the duty free shopping district.
- Q: I am pregnant; will I be able to go on the submarine?
- A: Congratulations, and if you are between one to four months and not experiencing any problems, you should be fine. Hardly any motion is felt as the submarine glides around underwater and you are sitting in air conditioned comfort. If you are over four months and may have discomfort seated for 50 minutes and slightly leaning forward to see out the viewport you may want to consider carefully. Also, there are no bathrooms on board.
- Q: Can a wheel chair guest or differently abled guest go on the submarine?
- A: Yes but it depends on the mobility of the individual as guests need to descend 11 steps on their own into the vessel. Visually and hearing impaired guests are welcomed but for your safety and comfort the Reservations staff should be advised at the time of the Reservations.
- Q: Is there any pressure of affect on the ears / can I flu the same day?
- A: The submarine is maintained at the same pressure as on land therefore having no effect on the ears. It is fine to fly or scuba dive the same day as taking the Atlantis tour.
