Friday June 4th, 2010

Pictured are some of the students of the St. Boniface Nursery School with Subby the seahorse while on their visit at Atlantis Submarines in the Shallow Draught, as part of their project entitled "Water, Water Every Where".
Friday the 4th of June, 2010 the St. Boniface Nursery school students visited Atlantis Submarines Barbados and spent some time with one of our Co-Pilots Afiya Taylor. Afiya taught this very excited bunch all about the Submarine tour, the reef and how important it is protect our environment. The purpose of this visit was to aid them in completing a school project entitled "Water, Water Everywhere: Sub-theme from the Sea to the Shore"
To their delight, those lucky seventy-five children also had the opportunity to meet our friendly mascot Subby the seahorse, who they were very eager to hug. They took group photographs with Subby and also did a short sightseeing tour on our pier where they had a closer look at the submarine and the transfer vessel.
Atlantis Submarines "Living classroom" outreach program has been be enhanced to educate children about protecting the marine environment, and also teach basic ways to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle and the impact they can make in greening Barbados. Along with Our Mascot Subby the Seahorse Atlantis Submarines will bring focus and attention to our beautiful underwater world and its beautiful creatures and how our lifestyle can affect them.
These tours are available year round for schools, camps and social groups. Subby and the Atlantis Staff can also pay you a visit at your request. You can also meet and have fun with Subby at our monthly Birthday parties where we celebrate your birthday with you and family and friends.
In 2009 Atlantis Submarines was the first attraction in the world to achieve double certification from "Green Globe and Green Certifications" in recognition of our active efforts to reduce our carbon footprint and "Go Green". Our attraction offers the unique opportunity to take guests underwater to experience the beauty of the underwater world in an authentic submarine.

Today we celebrated the contribution of Winston Warren Bernard Alleyne, as he officially retires from the company. He is known to all as Warren or "the man with the Barry White voice", and joined Atlantis Submarines Barbados on June 15th 1987. The Barbados site was the second Atlantis site in the world and therefore Warren has been at the forefront of the recreational submarine micro niche. Warren started as a copilot, in less than a year qualified as a pilot and went on to make a sterling contribution as a member of the maintenance team. Warren was privileged to participate in the assembly of Atlantis XII when it was being built in Vancouver Canada and this knowledge has served him well. Warren has demonstrated over the period that he is highly skilled and very innovative as there are many implements, tools and gadgets that bear his initials as inventor or builder.

A noted few of his creations adapted specifically to the submarine operation to make jobs more safe and efficient are a prototype chair for the differently-abled, which though not implemented was the start of a long history of innovation. A purpose built davit for hoisting heavy items like oxygen bottles, fairings thrusters etc has surely ensured that jobs were completed injury free. His collaborative efforts included the 'WARROD" used to remove level sensors from the submarine, and an apparatus to assist with the lifting of batteries and battery box. Warren's construction skills were utilized to build the staging area and floating dock for the Rhino Riders ( a self driven, semi inflatable boat), as well as the construction of the mezzanine floor that now is home to the Atlantis Administrative offices.
Warren has piloted Atlantis II and Atlantis III but has been involved as a member of the core team that has ensured an excellent record of conformance and equipment uptime of the aforementioned vessels as well as the latest addition to the fleet Atlantis XV. Warren will start his retirement with a sojourn in Canada with his family but he knows when the temperature gets too low and to ensure "his body remains in gear"; we will have a place for him at Atlantis Barbados. Thank you Warren for a sterling contribution and great memories as each staff member relayed during the farewell. Earlier this year a pre retirement dinner was held in Warren’s honor and was attended by the CEO and COO of Atlantis Submarines International, so that at the highest level his contribution was lauded.

Diving in Barbados
December 14th 2009
Story by Si Liberman
Scuba divers we're not, but we recently spent at least two hours under water examining ghostly reef habitats and their squirmy sea life in waters off Barbados and St. Martin.
Squeamish adventurers that we are, my wife, Dorothy, and I did it the easy way. We booked submarine excursions, one of which took us to a depth of 140 feet off the western edge of Barbados, during an eight-day southern Caribbean cruise on Carnival Legend. Click here to read entire article.

Family Friendly Atlantis Submarines Barbados
November 20th 2009 - A big thank you for a great time on the Atlantis! Customer Review from Hilde & Dirk Colenbrander
Thank you so much for the wonderful experience today; exploring the beautiful waters of Barbados from the inside of the submarine Atlantis!
Being with the LOGOS HOPE in Bridgetown we saw the Atlantis going out to sea frequently and from the first time I saw it I thought: this must be so great!
When I got to experience it for real today I was just as excited as my daughter Eva (3,5 years old), but I worried a bit that she would be scared going into the submarine and then diving underwater.
When we boarded the Atlantis the kids didn't have time to think about being scared, because they were so fascinated by what they saw through the big windows in the submarine and they talked and talked about all they were seeing.
They also looked at the cards hanging besides the windows showing the different fish and coral in the sea.
During the diving they cheered about every bubble that passed the window, and I just hoped the other passengers didn't mind their excitement. It was a high-light to see a sea turtle pass by our window and large schools of fish, but also the shipwreck and beautiful coral together with the good explanation of the crew made it a great experience.
It is something I would definitely recommend to anyone who visits Barbados, and a great memory of our visit to Barbados.
Kind Regards,
- Dirk Colenbrander, Captain of m/v LOGOS HOPE

Atlantis Submarines Barbados to double capacity this winter and will operate not one but two 48 passenger submarines in the midst of recession
Atlantis III and Atlantis XV preparing to dive in Barbados
September 23th 2009 - Atlantis Submarines Barbados has "upped the ante" on unique and exciting experiences by launching plans to run two submarines side by side from November 2009, at its Freshwater Bay dive site off the west coast of Barbados. This is another first for this award winning operation, as it attempts to fight the recession in an innovative way by fully utilizing two 48 seater submarines, Atlantis III and XV, on heavy cruise ship days and at prime time. "This double capacity though not required daily or year round, will allow guests to dive at their leisure and at times that are usually in very high demand." This was the sentiment of Roseanne Myers General Manger for Atlantis Submarines in Barbados, who added "Recession brings opportunity and though initially we were charged with the responsibility to swap out and use the later model submarine after the closure of a sister operation in the Caribbean, we decided to take advantage of what may be a robust cruise season".
During the winter months, primetime dives between 9 am and 1 pm are usually in high demand especially when three or four cruise ships call at the same time. With the two vessels running on the same schedule we can maximize the benefit which otherwise goes a begging on those days. "This way we can satisfy all market segments, that is residents, land based and cruise visitors, year round. Though the recession is expected to continue well into 2010 it is hoped that repeat guests to Barbados who may not have visited Atlantis to experience the 48 passenger vessel, will find double the reasons to do so now. A very important market niche for Barbados in the winter is also the Meetings and Incentives or MICE market, which requires exclusive " Five Star" charters which we can now confirm well in advance.
Submarine tours depart every hour on the hour in the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea. The Reception lounge at the Shallow Draught in Bridgetown is the takeoff point for the tour and is itself becoming an archive of Atlantis’ 22 year history in Barbados. The reception lounge is home to the original pilot console from TS II the last 28-seater submarine ever built, which was on display at Expo '86 in Canada and then made its way to Barbados in 1986. It was transferred to the US Virgin Islands before being taken out of service.
This winter will see the operation of Atlantis III and XV the first and last 48 passenger submarines built by the parent company in Vancouver. The latter was originally sent to Barbados for safekeeping and maintenance until a new home is identified. Robert Hinds, Operations manager for Atlantis Barbados says "We have a small, dedicated team of qualified persons capable of maintaining these vessels in pristine condition. But we also feel that we can operate two submarines and offer increased capacity to land based and cruise passengers and provide a "WOW" factor as guests in one vessel see the other pass by. It is exciting for us and it will be even more so for our guests".
Atlantis Submarines Barbados operates two 48 passenger submarines that provide the opportunity to see the underwater world in safety and comfort and to enjoy the reef and fish life that many non divers do not get to see. Atlantis Submarines Barbados takes receipt of a second submarine
Bridgetown Port, June 10th, 2009 - Just days after receiving recognition for Achievement of Excellence at the Barbados Tourism Awards 2009, the staff of Atlantis Submarines in Barbados is back to work preparing for another major event as they take receipt of a second submarine. The 48 seat submarine Atlantis XV arrived early on Wednesday June 10th, 2009, to little fanfare, aboard the MV Karin direct from Atlantis Submarines in St. Thomas, its home since 1999. Due to a number of factors including the economic downturn the Atlantis Submarines St. Thomas site officially ceased operation on May 30th 2009.
Atlantis XV arrives in the Bridgetown Port aboard the MV Karin and is offloaded into the sea
Though a very difficult decision and unfortunate for the St. Thomas team, Atlantis Barbados will benefit from the opportunity to switch to this newer vessel to replace the currently in use Atlantis III. Almost like deja vu Atlantis Barbados also inherited Atlantis III from St. Thomas when on that occasion the island was struck by a hurricane and the original vessel plying its trade in Barbados of smaller capacity was sent to St. Thomas to better match the business available for an island recovering from devastation. With its market position as a cruise port the St. Thomas site received the Atlantis XV after a few years when the market recovered but with a high cost base and very seasonal demand for the product, the current economic downturn prompted the final decision to close the site.
Both The Atlantis III and Atlantis XV vessels will be maintained in pristine and operable conditions until Atlantis Submarines International finds a home for one of them. When questioned on the move Founder, President and CEO Dennis Hurd, from the Vancouver, Canada headquarters said. "We have the greatest confidence in the management and staff of the Barbados operation and indeed Barbados as a destination, to get through these difficult times. We have entrusted this additional major asset to their care as the team has exhibited great competence and commitment over the last 22 years. We have always found Barbados from the inception in 1987 an enabling environment to do business and proactive in its approach to marketing the island."
Atlantis Submarines International builds submersibles and operates eleven submarines in the Caribbean, Hawaii and Guam and has carried over 11 million passengers worldwide. Atlantis submarine tours provide the opportunity for scores of visitors and residents to see the underwater world in safety and comfort and to enjoy the reef and fish life that many non divers do not get to see. Atlantis Submarines Barbados - First Attraction to receive the double award from Green Certification in alliance with Green Globe International
December 8th 2008-
Green Certification website reads "Congratulations to Roseanne Myers and her team for successfully reaching the Green Certification in alliance with Green Globe Int. Atlantis Submarines Barbados is the first to have reached the new combined award in the Caribbean. The Green Globe Award is the only certification recognized by tour operators worldwide." Roseanne Myers General Manager for Atlantis submarines Barbados says, "This is a fantastic achievement for us and it signals that we have started down a positive path to measuring and eventually reducing our carbon footprint as well as increasing our overall positive impact on the social and natural environment. We already had a number of safety, quality, preventative maintenance, programs in place but we did not realize that the Green certification would include an assessment of these as well environmental education and management systems. Most of all it was paperless and painless though we have lots more work to do!"
The management of Atlantis submarines Barbados seized the opportunity with the slowdown in business due to the economic crisis to make good use of this unusual gift of time and it has certainly paid off. A number of areas where we can improve our environmental responsibility and save money have been identified. There is the added benefit because Atlantis Submarines Barbados is now part of the Green Certifications Inc. / Green Globe Int. team and will be included on all of their websites, appropriate press releases, trade show, collateral, mail or e-mail to the travel trade, consumers, general public, corporations and meeting and incentive planners.
Atlantis Submarines in Barbados is an authentic submarine which is part of the largest fleet of recreational submarines in the world and daily takes guests to depths of 130 feet and deeper to explore the natural reef off the west coast of Barbados.
