Frequently Asked Questions
Back to Barbados Activity Page- Q: CAN A THREE YEAR OLD CHILD THAT IS UNDER 3 FEET IN HEIGHT GO ON THE SUBMARINE AND WILL HE/SHE BE FREE?
- A: Unfortunately if the child is under three feet they cannot ride on the submarine. The safety equipment that we carry on board is not recommended for children under 3 feet in height. However all children meeting the height requirement must be paid for irrespective of their age.
- Q: DO YOU PROVIDE A SHUTTLE SERVICE?
- A: Yes, we do provide an optional roundtrip shuttle service, which is not included in the regular tour price. (BDS$ 15 per person)
- Q: MY WIFE IS PREGNANT; WILL SHE BE ABLE TO GO ON THE SUBMARINE? (The first question to ask is how far along is she)
- A (From one to four months): It should not be a problem. It would just depend on her tolerance to the ocean.
- A (Over four months): It should not be a problem, however, during the tour it is best to lean slightly forward while seated for optimum viewing. This would be the only discomfort, if any.
- Q: CAN A WHEELCHAIR PASSENGER GO ON THE SUBMARINE?
- A: It depends on the mobility of the passenger. Each person must be able to enter and exit the submarine via 11 ladder-type steps (handrails are also fitted for additional safety). Permission should also be obtained from the Operations Manager and it will also be dependent on the sea conditions.
- Q: CAN A PERSON GO ON THE TOUR IF THEY ARE CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
- A: Some persons are more claustrophobic than others. It is best to notify the Co-Pilot of your fear, since he would be aware and in the event that you are very uncomfortable, he will be able to get the Pilot to surface as well as request for the return of the passenger vessel.
- Q: HOW CAN I GIVE YOU MY FEEDBACK ONCE I HAVE DONE THE TOUR?
- A: We distribute Comment Cards randomly during the boat ride returning to the dock in order to get your feedback. You may also post comments on Trip Advisor, Facebook, Twitter, My Space or take part in the Zagat surveys.
- Q:How many Atlantis Submarines are operating in Barbados?
- A: Atlantis Submarines now has two (2) operational submarine vessels (Atlantis 3 & Atlantis 15)
- Q:How many guests do they hold?
- A: Each Submarine can carry a maximum of 48 guests.
- Q:How are guests transferred from the dock to the Submarines?
- A: Both submarines can operate at the same time with guests being transported to the Submarines onboard the Ocean Quest shuttle boat, using the lower and upper deck. The top deck has been retrofitted with seats and a canopy for the comfort and safety of our guests.
- Q: What are some of the benefits of having 2 Submarines operating at the same time?
- A: Prime time space for dive times in high demand like 10 am, 11 am, 12 noon and 1 pm will now be more available, especially in the high season November through April. We can accommodate large groups (96 maximum) as well as offer different types of tours at the same time e.g. 5 Star Champagne Tours, Private Charters and our standard Expedition Tour.
- Q: How does Atlantis Submarines accommodate large groups?
- A: We can accommodate up to 96 maximum on a particular dive time by running both submarines at the same time (conditions apply). The logistics of keeping larger groups together become easier by doubling the capacity on a single departure.
- Q: What are the options for Private Charters?
- A: We offer Private Charters for our standard Expedition Tour (1 Sub 48 max / 2 Subs 96 max). Your group also has the option to do our “Tea Under the High Seas”, Five Star Champagne Tour (1 Sub max 22 / 2 Subs 44max).
